FOOD SERVICE OFFICER
Are you an experienced food service professional? If so, consider
bringing your culinary expertise to the Ministry of Community Safety
and Correctional Services, Fort Frances Jail. This is a temporary
position of up to 6 months, working irregular hours on an on-call basis.
Location: 310 Nelson St., Fort Frances.
To qualify for this position, you must possess a Journeyperson Chef’s
Certificate as issued by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills
Development OR sufficient acceptable experience in volume cooking; a
valid First Aid and Heartsaver Certificate or the ability to obtain same;
and the ability to work weekends and holidays. In addition, you will have
knowledge of cooking methods/procedures, food preparation/storage
practices, portion control standards, and Food Service Guidelines; the
ability to prepare a variety of foods and accommodate diverse dietary
needs; experience with volume or industrial cooking and baking; the ability
to use commercial/industrial kitchen equipment and tools to prepare food
and meals, as well as instruct others on proper usage; knowledge of
kitchen and workplace health and safety (such as the Public Health Act,
Occupational Health and Safety Act, Health Protection and Promotion
Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), etc.);
the ability to ensure compliance with standards/regulations on food
preparation/storage, sanitation, food safety, proper equipment operation/
utilization, etc.; good communication and interpersonal skills to work
with other staff and instruct, train, supervise and control inmate kitchen
workers; written communication skills to identify and assess workplace
hazards, equipment malfunctions and food service issues; and basic
proficiency with computers to input, track and record data.
This position requires Enhanced Screening Checks: CPIC, VSS, PIP, and
Salary Range: $21.66 - $23.14 per hour
