In a sign that spring is on its way, seagulls have returned to Borderland. This one was seen on a dock along the La Verendrye Parkway while a flock of dozens has taken up residence on the river ice by Pither’s Point. Local lore has it that once the gulls return, there are only three snowfalls left (time will tell if last night’s light dusting counts as the first one).

Decked out in green, Wilma Chapman served up Irish stew to the crowd that came out last night for the St. Patrick’s Supper at St. John’s Anglican Church here. Along with a spread of traditional Irish fare, those on hand also were treated to entertainment by the “Rainy Lake Ringers.”

With the help of librarian Evelyn Norris, Hailey Joyce was transformed into a paper bag princess yesterday morning during the Fort Frances Public Library’s “Bunch of Munsch” Storytime. The crowd of children who came out for the March Break activity heard their favourite Robert Munsch stories, ate cupcakes, and decorated their own costume to become a paper bag princess or prince.

Savannah Hyatt drew a fish yesterday afternoon at the Fort Frances Museum during March Break activities there.

Ashton Brenna, Alex Dvorak, and Aiden Tullio watched how the dice fell during a game of Harry Potter “Scene It?” yesterday afternoon at the Fort Frances Public Library. The game was one of many activities slated there for youths during March Break.
