The Riverside Foundation for Health Care’s special events committee has rounded up many gift ideas in preparation for the “Up Scale Bake Sale” at the Little Beaver Snow Park lodge on Thursday evening.

Members of the student council at Donald Young School gave up part of the lunch break to paint signs for the school’s float in the Santa Claus parade this coming Friday (Dec. 5) as part of “Holly Daze” festivities in Emo. The student council, members of P.A.L.S. (Participation Activity Leaders), and the cast from “Seussical the Musical” will ride on the float in the parade, which will run from DYS to the Golden Age Manor via Front Street starting at 6 p.m.

“Citizen of the Year” Linda Hamilton drew the winning ticket for the Kiwanis “Trip of the Month” draw for December as Kiwanian Alan Zucchiatti looked on this morning at International Travel Services. James Ward of Fort Frances will be heading to sunny Montego Bay, a trip valued at $5,000. Tickets for the 2009 “Trip of the Month” draw still are available for $120 each at ITS and Rainy Lake Realty.

Santa and Mrs. Claus waved to the crowds lining the streets Saturday evening during the Business Improvement Association’s annual “Parade of Lights.” The UNFC Aboriginal Head Start program won first prize for its float, with the St. Mary’s Youth Group and Canadian Mental Health Association placing second and third, respectively. The Robert Moore Kiwanis Builders’ Club got an honourable mention.

Marilyn and Roy Brown held the draw box for Doug Medhurst on Friday afternoon as he drew the lucky winners of three cash prizes outside the gift shop at La Verendrye Hospital. Glenna Rea won the $1,000 first prize, with second place going to Richard Harper ($300) and third place to Gladys Martin ($200). More than 2,500 tickets were sold for the draw, which was held by the hospital auxiliary.
