2009 "Hallett" launch

The "Hallett" was moved to its new home on the La Verendrye Parkway on Tuesday, Aug. 25. A crowd of people gathered, some waiting hours and hours, to see the boat lifted by a crane, placed on a flatbed trailer, and hauled to the Armstrong dock. It was then lowered into the water, where a tugboat towed it over to its new home just west of the Sorting Gap Marina. The "Hallett" first came into service in 1941 and was used until 1974. It became a tourist attraction at Pither's Point in the mid-1980s.

2009 Fort Frances Folk Festival

The inaugural Fort Frances Folk Festival was held Saturday, July 18 at Little Beaver Snow Park. Hundreds of people attended the event, which featured over 24 acts, including many from the district.

The Voyageur Lions Club held its annual "Polar Plunge" on New Year's Day on Sand Bay. Over 50 participants helped raised money for the Voyageur Lions, as well as various other district charities.

Lookout tower

The work on the refurbished lookout tower, which has been relocated to the La Verendrye Parkway, is nearly complete. Although it will not be open to the public until spring, here's a sneak preview of the tower and surrounding site.
