Mischiefs continue to occur

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Rainy River District is continuing to respond to several reports of mischief and theft.
The OPP reminds the public to be vigilant in locking up personal belongings such as bicycles, vehicles and out buildings.

In addition, the public is asked to immediately report any suspicious activity to OPP by calling 1-888-310-1122.
Police are continuing to step up patrols but need the public’s assistance in relaying information when it is occurring.
During the night of Tuesday, June 19, police learned of an unidentified group of youths setting off firecrackers and committing acts of mischief in the area of Fourth Street West and Shevlin Avenue in Fort Frances.
In the morning, a resident noticed four smashed solar lights and a smashed flower pot in his yard and reported the incident to police.
As part of police investigation, OPP officers canvassed the neighbours and learned that two Caucasian males and one Caucasian female were observed hanging around vehicles during the night and talking about the firecrackers they had been setting off in the area.
Police believe the acts are connected and would welcome any additional information the public could provide to help solve this crime.
Also on Tuesday, June 19, culprit(s) entered the North American Lumber yard on Kings Highway and removed a sandbag and roll of weeping tile.
The items were then discarded on the roadway of Colonization Road West.
Further investigation revealed that several boards had been removed from the lumber yard and discarded on the McDonald’s Restaurant lawn next door.
The items sustained no damage and were replaced.
Further to this, culprit(s) removed a painted black stake from a lawn on a McIrvine Road and discarded on the roadway.
Then culprit(s) entered a yard on the 1000 block of River Road West and removed two solar lanterns from their posts and discarded them in the middle of the road.
Police did identify four youth in the area through their patrols and found them under the influence of alcohol but would ask that if anyone has any further information pertaining to this mischief to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
On Monday, June 18, a resident reported to police that her vehicle had been rummaged through while parked in the back alley at the 400 block of Third Street East in Fort Frances.
Culprit(s) entered the unlocked vehicle, went through the glove compartment and took loose change from the console.
Also missing from the vehicle is a pink camouflaged blanket and a beige shawl.
On Saturday, June 16, a motion light was broken on a garage located on the 800 block of Crowe Avenue in Fort Frances.
On the evening of Friday, June 15, a resident of the 800 block of Fifth Street East in Fort Frances alerted police that pot lights on a garage had been pulled out of the frame and left hanging.
