The Fort Frances Thunderhawks saw their Allan Cup dreams dashed in Kenora over the weekend, but not in an expected way.
The Thunderhawks were getting ready to play in yesterday afternoon’s final against the host Thistles when the Thunder Bay Twins protested Fort Frances’ Jamie Davis was an illegal player.

T’hawks manager Dean Bruyere explained that organizers from Hockey Northwestern Ontario met yesterday morning and ruled that Davis had not been properly re-registered with the governing body when he joined the Thunderhawks on Feb. 10.
The Thunderhawks had advanced to the final after tying both of their round-robin games—3-3 with Kenora on Thursday night and then 5-5 with Thunder Bay on Friday.
Kenora claimed top spot after the round-robin with a 5-1 victory over the Twins on Saturday night, then beat them 3-1 in yesterday’s final.
With the win, the Thistles advance to the Renwick Cup in Thunder Bay against either the Whitby Dunlops or the Dundas Real McCoys.
They kick off their best-of-seven series tomorrow night.
