Chamber appeals for new directors

With its general membership meeting coming up Nov. 24, the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce is looking to fill several expected vacancies on the board.
As such, the Chamber is putting out a call to members to put their names forward for appointment or election (if need be) to the board.

“We do have a few vacancies. We have one stepping down,” said Chamber manager Anthony Mason, noting first vice-president Pam Andersen of Enterprise Rent-A-Car has moved away to Manitoba, leaving her seat open.
While some of the current directors whose terms are up have expressed interest in staying on board, Mason added new faces are encouraged to get involved.
If just enough people come forward to fill the vacancies, they’ll be appointed. But if more than enough do so, there will be an election.
Anyone interested in putting their names forward, or just to get more information about being a director, should contact Mason before the Nov. 24 meeting at 274-5773.
Individuals do not need to be a business owner to sit on the board, but your affiliated business must belong to the Chamber.
The board of directors meets over the lunch hour on the fourth Tuesday of each month, excluding July and August.
Directors also serve on various subcommittees, such as the one for the home and leisure show, which meet at other times.
The responsibilities of a director are:
•to help formulate and review various policies, proposed actions, programs, and projects so the best interest of the Chamber and community can be accomplished through concerted action;
•to provide the personal leadership, enthusiasm, and support necessary to help co-ordinate and build an effective organization geared to solving community problems; and
•to evaluate and act on issues which come, or should come, before the board of directors.
The objective of the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce is to serve its membership and be the recognized leader in influencing and affecting change for a favourable business climate in the area.
Its main goal is to improve trade and commerce, as well as and the economic, civic, and social welfare of the district.
