‘Skate for Funds’ raises over $4,200

The Rainy River Figure Skating Club kicked off its season with a registration and fundraiser on Sunday evening (Oct. 25).
“Skate for Funds” saw 62 registered skaters raise more than $4,200 towards their annual budget, Stacy Godin reported afterwards.

The ice surface was crowded with skaters from advanced levels to first-timers. The dressing rooms also were filled with parents busy tying skates and eager faces ready to tackle the ice for the first time.
Cries of “I’m scared!” and “No, don’t let go of me!” soon were replaced by squeals of excitement as the novices joined in the delight of slipping, sliding, and gliding.
Randi McCormick (Carpenter), after a year’s absence, will be back as coach for the club this season, noted Godin, adding the figure skating sessions begin this Thursday (Oct. 29).
The club will be working towards a wind-up program in March, with the theme being “Outer Space.”
