Council bullets

At Monday night’s meeting, town council:
•approved a request from the Police Services Board to amend By-Law 66/90-A (which prohibits the use of ATVs in town limits) to exempt police, fire and rescue, paramedic, and bylaw personnel while in the performance of their duties;

•authorized administration to purchase 5,175 dozen flowers from Hammond Landscaping Ltd. at a cost of $12,006 (plus taxes) for parks and cemetery flowers in 2009;
•denied a request Ted Brockie to receive free weekly garbage collection services, and suggested he rent a dumpster with one or more neighbouring businesses to share or split the rental fees;
•agreed to a recommendation of the Administration and Finance executive committee to approve a rent increase of 1.8 percent for residential property located at 501 Sixth St. W., and further that a lease agreement for the period of March 1, 2009-Feb. 28, 2010 and authorizing bylaw be prepared;
•authorized the transfer of Investing in Ontario Act funding in the amount of $770,986 to a reserve for roads;
•agreed to the recommendation of the Administration and Finance executive committee to incorporate the Zone 1 Ontario Association of Police Services Boards semi-annual meeting’s expected revenue and expenses into the Police Services Board 2009 operating budget;
•approved a financial donation of $400 to the Dominion 2009 Northern Ontario men’s curling championship;
•authorized a half-page ad in the Fort Frances High School yearbook at a cost of $100;
•approved travel expense and honorarium claim for Coun. Sharon Tibbs in the amount of $75.30 (this was for attendance at the Rainy River District Municipal Association meeting held Nov. 12 in Devlin);
•approved a report noting all councillor appointments to various positions and committees, effective Dec. 1, 2008 for a two-year term ending Nov. 30, 2010; and
•approved a report to ensure the town enter into a three-year Small Local Government Enterprise Licence agreement with ERSI for GIS software.
