Turnout lauded at advance polls

With the Oct. 14 federal election fast approaching, the turnout for the advance polls here was very good, the area’s assistant returning officer said this morning.
“Turnout was great,” enthused Ruby Douglas. “Numbers were great.”

Across Rainy River District, a total of 869 votes were cast in the advance polls that were held Oct. 3, 4, and 6.
There were 510 ballots cast in Poll #602 (middle of Fort Frances and eastwards) while 221 ballots were cast at Poll #601 (this side of Emo to the middle of Fort Frances).
The advance poll for the west end of the district saw 138 ballots cast.
It’s been “very, very busy” at the returning offices across the district, noted Douglas.
In related news, today (Oct. 7) is the final day for voting via special ballot and revisions.
Meanwhile, as the main election date nears, Douglas said there are two important things that voters need to know.
“The main thing that people need to know is that the polls open at 8:30 [a.m.] on Oct. 14 and they have to have ID,” she noted. “They can bring the cards if they have them, but those are not identification.
“Nobody votes without ID,” she stressed.
For more information on voting, call the local returning office (located at 242 Scott St.) at 274-5346.
The office is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m-9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday from noon-4 p.m.
