The “Building for the Future” campaign brought in about $2,800 with its most recent fundraising initiative last Thursday—a second car rally and a spaghetti dinner.
“It was quite a success and everyone seemed to have a good time,” said Margaret Sedgwick, chief librarian at the Fort Frances Public Library.

The dinner was held all evening at the Little Beaver Snow Park while participants of the car rally began at the library, following clues and completing tasks around town, which ultimately led them to the snow park.
Some of their tasks included backing a boat and trailer into the water at the Sorting Gap Marina, playing a song on “Guitar Hero” at Global Gaming, flying paper airplanes at Rusty Myers Flying Service, and making sushi with Manami Alexander at Lee Garden.
Only seven teams joined in the car rally last week—far fewer than the 17 which took park in the first one earlier this summer.
“But we raised more money because the teams were encouraged to collect pledges,” Sedgwick explained, noting it was quite a different event this time around with the interesting tasks and more challenging clues.
The AC crew—Mandy Lahti, Calli Thompson, Katie Blais, and Tara Jerry—were the winners of the car rally.
Meanwhile, the “pasta party” also was a successful event in itself, with about 100 people stopping by to enjoy the spaghetti, salad, and dessert.
The Italian mood was set by red-and-white checkered table cloths and soft melodies provided by Myron Hawrylak on piano.
“It was a really nice social evening,” said children’s librarian Andrea Avis.
An array of prizes also were up for grabs in a penny auction, with all of the items donated by local businesses and individuals.
The quilt raffle winner was drawn during the evening, which saw Sallee Dick taking home the prize.
Due to the success of the dinner, both Avis and Sedgwick said they hope to host another social gathering as a fundraiser for the library campaign.
