Fort Frances native Vai Lockman broke his opponent down during a match at a tournament in Virginia, Mn. on Saturday. The Mighty Mustang youth wrestling program member, which is based out of International Falls, finished in top spot in the 55- to 60-pound division.

Muskies return

The Muskie girls' hockey team was welcomed back by their loyal supporters Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of the Memorial Sports Centre here. The black-and-gold had just returned after finishing fourth at the OFSAA 'A/AA' championships in Timmins last week to wrap up an impressive season.

Perfect end

The Muskie boys' rink pulled of a rare “eight-ender” during their 11-1 win over Medway HS in just four ends last night at the OFSAA boys' and girls' curling championships at the Fort Frances Curling Club.

Choke hold

Rodger Dueck of the Mighty Mustang youth wrestling program had his opponent in all kinds of trouble with a tight headlock during one of his matches over the weekend. The International Falls native finished fourth in the 70- to 75-pound division at a tournament in Hibbing on Friday, then followed that up by snagging third place the following day in Nashwauk, Mn.

Halliday skating

Samantha Halliday, with the Border Figure Skating Club, had a solid showing over the weekend in Kingston, where she placed 12th in the STAR 6 women's event at the Skate Ontario STARSkate Provincial/Skate Ontario Adult Championships. Fellow club member Montana Plasky, meanwhile, also finished 12th in the STAR 8 women's event.

Figure skaters

Montana Plasky, left, and Samantha Halliday of the local Border Figure Skating Club both will be heading to the Skate Ontario STARSkate Provincial/Skate Ontario Adult Championships that run this Friday through Sunday in Kingston after qualify in their respective events at the Skate Ontario Championships Qualifying series that was held March 5 in Thunder Bay.

Mighty Mustang Aiden Juen looked to make a chin drop on his opponent during one of his recent matches. The Littlefork, Mn. native snagged third place in the 95- to 100-pound division at a tournament in Cloquet, Mn. on Saturday.
