Patriotic path

Nathalie Donaldson led a group of volunteers to paint maple leaves along the sidewalk of the 200 block of Scott Street on Saturday in anticipation of Canada Day. Donaldson, on behalf of The Shops on Scott (BIA), received permission to paint the leaves with the understanding that the sidewalk is scheduled to be torn up and replaced shortly after Canada Day.

Crossroads

Crossroads student Kaitlyn Gerhard’s poster is one of the local winners in the Fort Frances Lions Club’s annual peace poster contest, and it has been sent on to be judged at the “district” level. The other winners are Kasey Kreger-O’Neill (Robert Moore), Jaden Cooper (J.W. Walker), and Ciara Mainville (St. Francis).

Up for bid

This stunning print of “On a Wing” by local artist Cher Pruys, featuring the R.A.F. Pathfinders No. 635 aircrew with a Lancaster bomber, is among the silent auction items that will be up for bid next Thursday (Nov. 6) during “An Evening at the Officers’ Club,” a wine-and-cheese gala at the Fort Frances Museum.

Topical art

“Pandora’s Trojan Horse Tours The Oil Sands” is just one of the paintings that will be part of the newest exhibit at the Fort Frances Museum. The works of internationally-acclaimed Canadian contemporary artist Margot Cormier Splane will be up starting next week and run through September.

Visions of Greece

This painting of a fishing boat off the shores of Chania, on the coast of Crete, is among those that will be part of local artist Connie Cuthbertson’s new exhibit, “‘The Awakening’—Memories of Greece,” which will open at the Fort Frances Museum tomorrow (Nov. 26) with a reception from 7-9 p.m.
