Muskie rinks advance

Both the Muskie girls’ and boys’ curling rinks had good showings at a NorWOSSA tune-up in Sioux Lookout over the weekend.

Tirzah Keffer, Sam Mueller, Carly Busch, and Andrea Nelson swept through their division with a perfect 3-0 record, beating Red Lake (9-0), Atikokan (9-3), and Kenora (9-2) to claim top spot.

Dominos wins again

The Muskie senior boys’ basketball team pulled out a 78-66 win over Taggs in the opening game of local men’s basketball league action Monday night at Fort High.

Travis Stromness led the black-and-gold attack with a game-high 20 points while Morgan Anderson replied with 19 in a losing cause.

Muskie hoopsters golden in Winnipeg

It was a banner weekend for the Muskie senior boys’ basketball team.

The squad has been enjoying a solid season to date—and continued its torrid pace with gold at a tournament in Winnipeg over the weekend.

The Muskies faced their stiffest test in the final, earning a 73-63 win over the University of Winnipeg Collegiate high school team.

Muskies win three of four

It was nearly a clean sweep for the Muskie court teams in Dryden yesterday.

As expected, both boys’ basketball teams handled the Eagles relatively easily to improve their NorWOSSA records 4-0.

Garnet Cornell scored 19 points as part of a balanced attack as the seniors reeled off a convincing 77-47 victory. Travis Stromness added 18.

Robert Moore project on track

The Rainy River District School Board held its monthly meeting Tuesday night at Robert Moore School.

On the agenda, trustees looked at the meaning of “optimism” via a video presentation from Sturgeon Creek School, as well as one by students from the Sturgeon Creek Alternative Program on their trip to Guatemala, where they helped build houses and visited an orphanage.

Court teams set to resume

It was a good first month to the NorWOSSA season for the four Muskie court teams in December, but it will be a matter of shaking off the rust for their next league action tomorrow in Dryden, which comes a full three weeks after their last league contests here Dec. 18.

Men’s hoops back on court

The local men’s basketball league returned to the court Monday night looking to cut into that added turkey weight put on during the holiday season.

The Vous got back on the winning track with a narrow 73-70 victory over the Muskies.

Brad Wardas and Aaron Rost led the Vous with 17 points apiece while Jeremy Strain netted 15 for Fort High.
