Two teams top night

Kiss My Pass and Take A Hit both garnered the maximum six points in Fort Frances Women's Volleyball League action last Thursday night.

How I Set Your Mother was right behind with five points while Duck and Dive nabbed four.

Bump It Up, Gillons', the Volley Llamas, and Let's Talk About Sets all snared three.

Taxi, parking rates going up

The cost to take a taxi and “Dial-a-Ride” has gone up here, as has parking rates.

With the increase in minimum wage, local taxi owners were looking to increase the taxi rates accordingly, and met with the town's Planning and Development division to discuss the proposed rates.

Bantam Leafs finish fourth

The Fort Frances Bantam 'AA' Leafs finished in fourth place at the 16-team SCHEELS 15U tournament held in Fargo, N.D. on Feb. 2-4.

After going 3-0 in round-robin play, the squad faced off against the Winnipeg Twins in the semi-finals.

The Twins exploded for four goals in the second period en route to an 8-2 drubbing of the Leafs.

Muskie rinks advance to NWOSSAA

All three Muskie curling teams have advanced to the NWOSSAA finals after an impressive showing Sunday and Monday at the NorWOSSA playdowns in Sioux Lookout.

The mixed rink, consisting of Jordon Bazylewski, Mackenzie Taylor, Daffini Chabot, Kian MacEvoy, Brett Schram, and Sami Stone, nabbed gold over the two days.

Log spill

A tractor-trailer lost part of its log load late this morning at Central Avenue, which temporarily blocked southbound traffic there. A quick survey of the scene indicated no vehicles were damaged or individuals were hurt because of the spill.

Borderland Pride social slated

Borderland Pride's second social mixer for the area's LGBTQ2 and Ally community has been set for Thursday, Feb. 15 from 7-10 p.m. at Barajas in International Falls.

The first Pride social mixer was held Oct. 26 at From the Grind Up in Fort Frances.

Despite the major snowstorm that day, more than 40 people attended.
