Lakers losing captain

The Fort Frances Lakers have announced that captain Julian Uhryniuk has committed to play for the Trinity Western University Spartans next season.

The Langley, B.C.-based program is coming off a BCIHL championship this past year.

Local runner in Lakehead

Local runner Priscilla Miller aced her age division at the annual June Classic 5K in Thunder Bay over the weekend.

Of the 43 female racers, Miller finished second overall, clocking in at 19:33:60 in the chip-timed event.

Miller averaged 6:18 per mile while passing most of the men who also were competing.

Tigers stay unbeaten

The Dawson Tigers ran their record to 4-0 following a 20-5 thrashing of the Manitou Thunderbirds in Rainy River District Men's Fastball League action Thursday night.

Carl Big George Jr. earned the pitching win while Charlie Debungee was saddled with the loss.

Morgan Desserre had the lone homer in the game.

Trip draw

Stuart Bennett, an optometry student doing an externship at Lidkea Optometry here, drew the June “Trip of the Month” draw winner while Kiwanian Robin Wright looked on Friday morning at International Travel Services. Mac and Cyndall Laughed of Brandon, Man. will be heading to Barcelona, Spain—a trip valued at $4,500. Next month's trip is to London, England and Edinburgh, Scotland ($4,300).
