Lakers fall to Rangers

The first step on the path to a “three-peat” was more of a stumble for the Fort Frances Lakers.

Kenny Hasbergen notched a pair of goals to pace the Minnesota Iron Rangers to a 3-1 win over the Lakers last night in Hoyt Lakes in the first SIJHL pre-season game for both squads.

Hasbergen scored the lone goal of the first period.

Trip draw

Tichbornes Real Estate sales rep Bonnie Broman, left, drew the September “Trip of the Month” draw winner as Kiwanian Robin Wright looked on this morning at International Travel Services. Ted and Annie-Marie Fitzgerald of Fort Frances are heading off on a Caribbean cruise—a trip valued at $4,500. Next month’s trip is to St. Petersburg, Fla. ($3,600).

Peterson duo takes Falls title

Blood is thicker than water and it fishes better, too.

It was a family moment to remember for the father-son team of Travis and Jace Peterson of Bemidji, Minn., as the pair combined to win the 2015 International Falls Bass Championship and first-place money of $10,000 with a two-day total of 29.60 pounds.

Fire scene quiet

The Northwest Region fire scene is quiet. There were no new fire yesterday and there are only four active fires in total.

A light smoke haze in the region is drifting in from fires in western Canada.
