Lakers snatch opener

The playoffs seem to have given the Fort Frances Lakers new life.

After ending the regular season on a seven-game losing skid, captain Julian Uhryniuk scored twice as the Lakers doubled the English River Miners 4-2 in the opener of their best-of-five quarter-final series last night at the Cochenour Arena.

Deadline extended for talent search

District musicians shouldn't miss this chance for their big break.

The Rainy River Future Development Corp. is hunting for local talent to perform at a monthly concert series at the new Rainy Lake Square here on Thursday nights from May through September, and the deadline for artists to take part has been extended from March 26 to March 30.


The Muskie girls' hockey team got off to a winning start this morning at the OFSAA 'A/AA' girls' hockey championships in Timmins.

The black-and-gold cruised to a 6-1 victory over Anderson CVI in their opening game.

Captain Annalise (CC) Hayes netted a hat trick while Taylor Croswell, Kelsey Langtry, and Jessica Steele also scored.

Lakers extend skid

It was close once again but still didn't turn out in their favour.

The Fort Frances Lakers saw its losing streak extend to five-straight games with a 3-2 shootout loss to the Thunder Bay North Stars last night at the Fort William Gardens.

Drinking water gets A+

The town's drinking water got an A+ on it most recent report card.

Town council accepted the 2017 drinking water system annual report during its regular meeting last night, acknowledging the staff “for their hard work to ensure that consumers connected to the town's water system receive outstanding water.”

“We have no deficiencies this year at all,” Coun. Ken Perry lauded.

Team tops

Kiss My Pass was the lone team to garner the maximum six points in Fort Frances Women's Volleyball League action Thursday night.

Take A Hit, Gillons', and Let's Talk About Sets all grabbed five points.

How I Set Your Mother and the Volley Llamas both snared four.

Safe Sets nabbed three while Scared Hitless had two.
