They took the scenic route to Sault Ste. Marie but they’re on their way.

The Fort Frances rink of skip Anika Beaudry, third Tory Beaudry, second Jillian Cousineau, lead Katrina Slomke, and fifth Ashley Payne won the last-chance West region qualifier in Nipigon over the weekend to advance to the Bantam girls’ provincial championship Feb. 25-28.

Muskie boys clinch top spot

It wasn’t a matter of if but when.

The Muskie boys’ hockey team locked up first place—and home-ice advantage throughout the NorWOSSA playoffs—after a pair of dominating weekend wins at the ’52 Canadians Arena.

Fort High (12-0) scored the last seven goals Friday night to put away the Red Lake Rams 12-3, officially clinching top spot.

Leaders back on track

The bullet train is back on track.

How I Set Your Mother rebounded from a rare imperfect showing the previous week to post yet another maximum six-point effort last night to solidify its hold atop the Fort Frances Women’s Volleyball League.

The league leaders improved to 94 points on the season.

Black suffers first loss

It was a horseshoes and hand grenades kind of night for Team Red, except with all the ringers and none of the explosions.

John Sivonen netted 33 points as Team Red (5-6) eked out a 77-76 win over previously-undefeated Team Black in Fort Frances Men’s Basketball League action Monday night at Fort High.

Josh Mastin led Team Black (9-1) with 33 points of his own.

Rage nab shutout

Joleigh Hayes left her opponents in a daze.

Hayes netted both goals for the La Place Rendez-Vous Rage in a 2-0 shutout of the Wright Physiotherapy Rockettes in Borderland Women’s Indoor Soccer action last night at Fort High.

Lakers stay at No. 7

The Fort Frances Lakers returned from the annual “SIJHL Showcase” last week to find their fortunes neither improved or depreciated on the national scene.

A 2-1 record was enough to keep the two-time defending SIJHL champs at No. 7 in the CJHL’s latest top 20 weekly rankings.

Drawing a winner

Erin Wood of Simplicity Professional Hair & Body Care drew the “Trip of the Month” draw winner for February as Kiwanian Robin Wright looked on this morning at International Travel Services. Nancy Gillon of Fort Frances is heading to Roatan, Honduras—a trip valued at $4,200. Next month’s trip is a Mexico cruise ($3,600).
