Annual conference on mental health coming up

Can-Help (a program sponsored by the Fort Frances branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association), Sunset Country Psychiatric Survivors, and the Mood Disorders Association of Ontario work closely together, offering peer support, advocacy, education, and outreach.

Assistance also is offered to set up self-help groups and family support education in the Kenora-Rainy River districts.

Be wary of blue-green algae

The Ministry of the Environment has advised the Northwestern Health Unit that a sample from a local lake recently tested positive for blue-green algae (cyanobacteria).

A sample from a visible algal bloom on Caliper Lake, south of Nestor Falls, was analyzed by a laboratory and found to contain a number of species of cyanobacteria, which can produce toxins.

Area band gets funds for study

Band council members and staff of a First Nation community in Northwestern Ontario will strengthen their knowledge about economic development to attract and keep business in the community.
