Machinery stolen

OPP officers were notified of a theft that occurred sometime between last Wednesday night and the early-morning hours of Thursday.

The theft occurred in the parking lot near Timberwolf Lodge Road, which in on Highway 502 about 40 km north of Highway 11.

The parking lot is vacant now, but used to house the Mallard’s Nest restaurant.

Board, CUPE ratify deal

The Northwest Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce the ratification of the collective agreement between the board and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

The agreement is in keeping with the Provincial Discussion Table (PDT) agreement and is for a four-year term (Sept. 1, 2008 to Aug. 31, 2012).

New number for Rainycrest

Be advised that Riverside Health Care Facilities, Inc. will be upgrading its telephone system at Rainycrest Long Term Care this Wednesday (Dec. 10) starting at 5 p.m. and lasting for roughly four hours.

During the above-mentioned time period, the public may experience a “busy signal” when calling Rainycrest. People are asked to be patient and dial the number again.

Man, company fined for illegal timber harvest

A Wabigoon man and his company have been fined $5,000 each for illegally harvesting timber in a Crown forest.

Henry Grant Wetelainen was found guilty after the Crown appealed his Jan. 15 acquittal.

He was convicted under the Crown Forest Sustainability Act of harvesting timber in a Crown forest without a licence, and has been given a year to pay the fines.
