Recession not stopping local shoppers

There’s no stopping Christmas shopping.

Despite news last week that Ontario’s unemployment rate had jumped to 7.1 percent in November, local shoppers said the recession has had little effect on their buying patterns this holiday season.

A tour through local stores found customers with little worry—despite one retailer’s observation that sales are down this year.

A little unsure

Not all the youngsters quite knew how to react Saturday during the annual “Cookies and Cocoa with Santa” event at the Fort Frances Museum. They were many unsure faces, and even a few tears, as Santa and Mrs.Claus greeted them.

On Santa’s knee

Cookies and cocoa with Santa at the Fort Frances Museum on Saturday proved to be a success despite a few tears and apprehension of some of the youngsters. The event also featured Christmas books, decoration making, and all the tools needed to write letters to jolly St. Nick.
