Trio charged over thefts

Three people face charges stemming from an ongoing joint police investigation into several property crimes in Kenora.

During the week of Jan. 10, the Kenora OPP received a number of reports of property crimes at businesses in the city.

It was reported that a large amount of tools, industrial supplies, and several computers were taken from the businesses.

Man facing charges

During the early-morning hours of Jan. 10, officers from the North Caribou Lake Police and the OPP responded to a disturbance at a residence in North Caribou Lake First Nation.

A subject allegedly broke into a residence and assaulted one of the residents in the home.

The subject then fled from officers but was located a short time after and proceeded to resist arrest.

Two killed in collision

On Saturday around 5:30 p.m., Dryden OPP officers responded to a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 17 in Machin Township, west of Vermilion Bay.

An eastbound SUV lost control and collided with a westbound tractor-trailer unit.

The Dryden & Kenora Ambulance and Machin Fire Department attended the scene to assist the occupants of the vehicles.

Meth bust in Kenora

A Kenora man is facing drug-related charges following an ongoing investigation into drug-trafficking there.

On Wednesday around 9:45 a.m., as a result of an ongoing investigation, police arrested a male in the north end of Kenora.

A brief foot chase ensued before the male was taken into custody without incident.

OPP survey to start

Community satisfaction surveys are scheduled to start in January in North West Region to solicit public opinions about the services the OPP detachments deliver to communities throughout the region.

It is a telephone survey that randomly selects members of the public (age 16 or older) who live in Ontario.

Man killed in crash

On Sunday around 1 p.m., police and emergency services responded to a three-vehicle collision on Highway 11/17 near Pearl Road 5.

Preliminary investigation found an eastbound pickup truck crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with a westbound tractor-trailer.

A secondary collision subsequently occurred between the pickup truck and a second westbound tractor-trailer.

OPP seek tips on hit-and-run

On Sunday around 5 a.m., the Rainy River District OPP responded to a motor-vehicle collision on the 200 block of Sixth Street West in Fort Frances.

Officers are looking for assistance in locating the driver of the vehicle that struck a taxi cab and fled the scene.

The driver of the cab suffered minor injuries in the collision.
