Prevent fraud: OPP

During March, the OPP, the RCMP, and the Competition Bureau of Canada are joining police services across the country to promote public awareness to help prevent all Canadians from becoming victims of fraud.

This year, the OPP's Fraud Prevention Month education campaign will highlight three mass-marketing fraud priorities, including:

Driver facing charges

On March 10 around 5:30 p.m., the Rainy River District OPP received a report of a motor-vehicle collision in a parking lot on the 200 block of Third Street East.

During the investigation, the driver, a 49-year-old Fort Frances male, was arrested and taken to OPP detachment for breath tests.

The vehicle was towed from the scene and impounded for the mandatory seven days.

Beware of thin ice

The Red Lake OPP investigated two separate incidents yesterday involving a motor vehicle breaking through the ice on Red Lake.

Also 24 hours earlier, the OPP received a report of a snowmachine breaking through the ice.

The vehicles did not break through the ice entirely, and those involved in all three incidents were not injured.

Arrest made in two deaths

Rainy River District OPP officers responded to a call for assistance at a residence in the Lakeview Trailer Park yesterday morning.

When they arrived, they found two deceased people in the residence.

Their identities are not being released at this time pending positive identification and notification of next-of-kin.
