Lightning sparks fire

One new lightning-caused fire was confirmed by yesterday evening in the Northwest Region.

Located in Nipigon District, just east of Wabakimi Park near the north end, was 0.1 hectares in size at last report.

The forest fire hazard generally is “high” across the region, with some areas of “moderate” in the far north and the southern sectors.

One fire burning

There were no new fires in the Northwest Region yesterday, and only one fire remains active as of this morning.

Nipigon District fire #7 is a suspected lightning-caused fire that burned cut wood about 75 km northeast of Thunder Bay.

It is “under control” at 5.5 hectares in size.

More fires now ‘out’

While no new fires were reported in the Northwest Region yesterday, multiple fires recently have been declared “out.”

Five were declared “out” in Sioux Lookout District on Wednesday.

The lightning-caused blazes, located in the far north of the district, were “being observed” for some time.

A recent flight over the fires confirmed they no longer are active.
