Fire crews heading west

Three new fires were confirmed in the Northwest Region by mid-afternoon yesterday.

Kenora Fire #145 was located south of Greenwater Lake, near the CP Rail line about 27 km west of Kenora.

The 0.2-hectare blaze was listed as “not under control” at last report.

The other two fires were located in Thunder Bay District.

Fire hazard on the rise

Three new fires were reported in the Northwest Region by mid-afternoon yesterday.

Dryden Fire #75 was located on an island on Pickerel Arm of Minnitaki Lake, about 50 km northeast of Dryden.

It was declared “out” at 0.1 hectares in size.

The other fires were located in Thunder Bay District and Red Lake District.

Tips sought on fire starters

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is seeking the public's help in identifying the individuals responsible for starting a forest fire on an island in Lake of the Woods.

The fire was 0.1 hectares in size when discovered on the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 4 on a small island northeast of Mather Island.

Fire ban remains in place

Just one new fire was confirmed in the Northwest Region by early evening yesterday.

Fort Frances Fire #60 is located near Rainy Lake, about 30 km north of Fort Frances.

The fire was listed as “not under control” at 0.1 hectares in size at last report.

Three new fires were confirmed by mid-afternoon Saturday, including one in Fort Frances District.

Fire ban imposed in area

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has declared a Restricted Fire Zone for portions of the Northwest Region until further notice.

This order is required to reduce the possibility of unwanted human-caused fires.

Resources presently are adequate though the potential for problematic fires exist.
