Canada lauded by Obama on climate efforts

MANILA, Philippines—Justin Trudeau has left the building.

Canada’s new prime minister departed today from the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation summit in Manila, closing his first act on the international stage—trailed by a squealing mob of young Filipino journalists and volunteers and questions about whether any of it might be good for his broader foreign policy goals.

OTTAWA—The international datebook dictated that Justin Trudeau’s debut on the world stage would come at the G20 leaders’ summit this weekend in Turkey.

But had it been up to him to decide the time and place himself, the prime minister probably could not have picked a better international meeting that fits with the agenda that brought him to power with a majority government.
