An event dubbed “Paddle into the New Year,” presented by the Sunset Country Métis Council and the Métis Nation of Ontario Healing and Wellness Branch, was held Saturday afternoon at the Sunset Country Métis Hall here.

Action runs every Thursday beginning at 7 p.m., with all 12 teams playing at Fort High and St. Michael's School. Fort Frances Lakers' forward Ian Jarvis blasted the team's lone goal top-shelf past Thief River Falls Norskies' goalie Jackson Nelson during last Tuesday's 7-1 loss at the Ice For Kids Arena. But the Lakers exacted some revenge with a 2-1 shootout win Saturday night at the Ralph Engelstad Arena to snap a three-game losing streak.

Joe Glowack of the International Falls Broncos looked to avoid the oncoming freight train in Muskie forward Jon Busch during his team's 2-1 exhibition win Monday night at the Ice For Kids Arena. The Broncos swept the two-game “Border Battle” series after having won the opener 5-4 in overtime back on Dec. 22 over in the Falls.
