Set to throw

Red Gut Babes' third baseman Syd White looked to unleash a throw across the diamond to first base to record an out after fielding a soft grounder during her squad's 12-4 loss to the Fort Frances Her-icanes in the Rainy River District Women's Fastball League final Monday evening at VanJura. It was the Babes' second championship loss to the Her-icanes, previously falling to them in 2016.

Trophy hoist

It was all smiles and jubilation for members of the Fort Frances Her-icanes as they gathered around team captain Stacy Patey to hoist the championship trophy after downing the Red Gut Babes 12-4 in the Rainy River District Women's Fastball League final Monday evening at VanJura.

Ball kick

Katie Beninger of Al's Racquet Stringing looked to kick the ball out of harm's way during her squad's 3-2 win over La Place Rendez-Vous in the Borderland Soccer League's women's division final last Tuesday evening at the St. Francis Sports Field. The championship win was a nice reward for Al's after they had finished behind the Vous in the regular-season standings.

Big stringer

Les Morrison of Baudette, Mn., right, and his partner, Bill Stay, held up their 19.20-pound Day 2 haul that helped them earn a fifth-place finish at the 2018 Morson Bass International on Sunday afternoon. Their catch on the final day also was the biggest bag of the tournament.

RRDWFL final

Fort Frances Her-icanes' first baseman Norma Reather crouched down to snag a throw to record an out during her squad's 12-4 win over the Red Gut Babes in the Rainy River District Women's Fastball League final yesterday evening at VanJura here. It was the third-straight league title for the Her-icanes, who also beat the Babes to claim their first crown back in 2016.

Stock car races

James Lambert of Fort Frances flew around the turn during the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds feature race Saturday night that was part of the Rea Memorial Weekend doubleheader at the Emo Speedway held in conjunction with the Emo Fair. Lambert wound up finishing in 13th place in the 20-car field while Jamie Davis of Fort Frances nabbed his second-straight checkered flag of the weekend.

Soccer final

Joey Angus of CJ Contracting pondered his next move while trying to keep the ball away from Chris Sinclair of Manitou Forest Products during his squad's 1-0 win in the second-and-deciding game of the Borderland Soccer League's men's division final Tuesday evening at the St. Francis Sports Field.
