Compulsive video-game playing now new mental health problem

GENEVA — For video game addicts, it might soon be “game over.”

In its latest revision to a disease classification manual, the World Health Organization said Monday that compulsively playing video games now qualifies as a new mental health condition. The statement confirmed the fears of many parents but led some critics to warn that it may risk stigmatizing young video players.

UN to decide if Zika virus is a global health emergency

GENEVA The World Health Organization is convening an emergency committee on Monday to decide if the Zika virus outbreak should be declared an international health emergency.

At a special meeting Thursday in Geneva, WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan said the virus ‚Äî which has been linked to birth defects and neurological problems ‚Äî was “spreading explosively.”
