Originally from Emo, ON, she received her BJH (Bachelor of Journalism) with a combined honours in Music History from the University of King’s College in Halifax, NS. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.

Bridge work

Crews were busy pouring cement on Black Bridge along La Vallee Road South (about two km south of Highway 11/71) on Thursday. The project, bring headed by T&K Sharp Construction of Stratton, consisted of removing the old wooden bridge structure that spans the La Vallee River and building the new bridge.

Show and tell

Kenzie McClain, left, along with Evan and Alex Kabel participated in “Show and Tell” this morning at the Fort Frances Nursery School, which started up again last week. Spots are still available for the pre-school program and youngsters aged 2-5 are welcome. Call 274-5653 for more information.

Remembering John McCrae

Fort Frances Museum curator Pam Hawley, left, along with summer student Jillian Berry, put in place a display of poppies for a new exhibit focusing on John McCrae, who is best-known for writing the famous World War I poem, “In Flanders Fields.” The exhibit, “Remembering John McCrae,” which is on loan from the Peterborough Museum, will run until the end of November.

Leaping stallion

This stallion showed off the “courbette”—a maneuver where the horse balances on the hind legs and then jumps—during the “Airs Above the Ground” portion of the Lipizzaner Stallion show before a packed house at the ’52 Canadians Arena here Friday night.
