’Deficit of trust’: At UN, leaders of a warming world gather

The planet is getting hotter, and tackling that climate peril will grab the spotlight as world leaders gather for their annual meeting at the United Nations this week facing an undeniable backdrop: rising tensions from the Persian Gulf to Afghanistan and increasing nationalism, inequality and intolerance.

Global economy is growing at 3 per cent - best since 2011

The global economy is growing by about 3 per cent its highest rate since 2011 and a significant acceleration from last year, the United Nations said Monday.

In its annual economic report and forecast, the U.N. said the upturn stems predominantly from faster growth in all major developed economies, with east and south Asia remaining “the world’s most dynamic regions.”
