OFSAA buzz abounds
Wednesday, Mar 22, 2017There is a bustle of excitement this week as Rainy River District hosts the OFSAA 'A'/'AA' boys' hockey championship.
On Monday, I saw several tour buses pulling into Fort Frances to take part.
Best wishes to all the players making up our Muskie team. You have the entire district supporting you for this event.
Sure signs of 'spring' in the air
Wednesday, Mar 8, 2017For everyone looking forward to “spring,” there's some sure signs in the air that it's coming.
Registration for Emo Youth Soccer—open to boys and girls from pre-school to Grade 8—continues tomorrow (March 9) from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Emo-La Vallee Community Centre.
The cost is $45 for kids in JK-Grade 8 and $30 for pre-schoolers. A late payment fee of $5 applies after March 10.
Nominees for top senior sought
Wednesday, Feb 22, 2017Every year, the Township of La Vallee nominates a local individual as “Senior of the Year.”
But this year, the township decided to take a different approach and instead ask residents to nominate someone they think should receive the award.
Jamboree coming up
Wednesday, Feb 15, 2017The annual Golden Age Country Jamboree and Square Dance will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 from 6 p.m.-midnight at the Northwest Bay Community Centre.
The band “17A” (Elmer Whitefish and Wayne Teeple) will provide an evening of 1950s and '60s music.
Admission is $2 and a canteen will be available (absolutely no alcohol or drugs allowed).
Early Years registration set
Wednesday, Feb 1, 2017A reminder that the Early Years registration for the 2017-18 school year takes place next Wednesday (Feb. 8) from 1-5 p.m. at Crossroads School here in Devlin.

Robbie Burns dinner goes Saturday
Tuesday, Jan 24, 2017The annual Robbie Burns dinner, hosted by the Emo and District Lions Club, takes place this Saturday (Jan. 28) at the Emo Legion.
Cocktails are at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m.
Tickets cost $25 each, with proceeds going to support Lions' projects across the district.
Bingo resumes at Emo Legion
Thursday, Sep 15, 2016The Emo Legion has started its fall Bingos again, with doors opening at 6 p.m. each Tuesday.
Come out and enjoy an evening of Bingo—you even might take home some cash!
Proceeds help the Legion fund its many charities.
A reminder, as well, that seniors’ carpet bowling and lunch goes every Thursday at the Emo Legion
Games begin at 9 a.m., with lunch served at noon.
Thanksgiving supper planned
Friday, Oct 9, 2015The Emo Legion is hosting a traditional Thanksgiving supper this Sunday (Oct. 11).
The menu consists of ham, turkey, mashed potatoes, vegetables, salads, buns, cranberries, and desserts, with the cost being $15 for adults and $7 for kids 10 and under.
Pre-ordered take-outs also available.
