Premiers want more clarity on cannabis

EDMONTON—Canada's premiers say the federal government needs to provide more clarity as they work to craft rules on legalizing marijuana—or Ottawa will face a call for a delay.

“It's great that the prime minister wants to stick to his deadline. That's super-duper,” Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister said yesterday at the closing news conference of the leaders' annual summer meeting.

Oilers now have playoff experience under their belts

EDMONTON—In the forthcoming battle of Orange Crush versus Orange County, the Edmonton Oilers say they no longer can be characterized as “green.”

“We've got playoff experience now. We just went through a round,” centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins said yesterday after practice at Rogers Place.

“It gives usa confidence now that we're a legit team and we can play against anybody.”

Alberta looks to prevent donating blood for profit

EDMONTON—Alberta is taking steps to prevent donors from selling their blood and plasma for a profit.

The changes are included in the Voluntary Blood Donations Act, introduced yesterday in the legislature by Health minister Sarah Hoffman.

“Donating blood should not be viewed as a business venture but as a public resource that saves lives every day,” Hoffman said.
