Thunderhawks’ forward Tyler Barker brought the puck into the offensive zone as Fort Frances Lakers’ defencemen Marty McFadden and Cody McCool provided a challenge last Tuesday night at the Ice For Kids Arena. The local senior ‘AAA’ squad jumped out to a 4-0 lead, then held on for a 6-5 victory over their junior ‘A’ counterparts.

Face-off draw

Lakers’ forward Blake Boaz tried to corral a face-off while battling Thunderhawks’ counterpart Tom Biondich during the second period of their exhibition game Tuesday night at the Ice For Kids Arena. The senior ‘AAA’ squad jumped out to a 4-0 lead and then held on for a 6-5 victory.

Sliding screams

Katelin Gurniak, Rachel Jean, and Annie Jean had a wild ride down the hill at the overpass here Thursday afternoon. About 10 kids went out enjoying their break from school in the final days leading up to Christmas.

Snowy hockey

Noah Loveday chipped the puck through a dusting of snow as Claire Tibbs looked on during a game of shinny at the north-end rink last Wednesday afternoon. About 10 players were taking part in the game as part of their Christmas break fun.

Sliding fun

Rachel and Annie Jean took to the slope at the overpass yesterday afternoon. About 10 youngsters were enjoying their Christman holiday by sliding down the hill on discs and sleds of varying shapes and sizes.

Shinny hockey

Noah Loveday jetted away with the puck as MacKenzie Tibbs gave chase during a pick-up shinny game at the north-end rink on Portage Avenue yesterday afternoon. With the mild pre-Christmas weather and kids off from school, the town’s outdoor rinks have been bustling with activity.

Candy cane giveaway

Mrs. Claus (a.k.a. Judy Kielczewski), standing with Betty’s owners Doug and Blair Anderson, gave Celeste Tean a candy cane during a visit to the Scott Street store yesterday morning. Kielczewski was handing out candy canes at businesses in the downtown core.
