Letters to Attawapiskat

Fort High students Tory Beaudry, left, and Emma Dykstra penned letters to the youth of Attawapiskat yesterday afternoon in the atrium. The remote First Nation community in Northern Ontario has experienced a suicide crisis in recent weeks, and a viral Facebook post has encouraged Canadians to send letters of support addressed to the youth there.

Wellness speaker

Andréanne Fleck Saito, a keynote speaker from southern Ontario, spoke to members of the Northwest Catholic District School Board as part of “Wellness Day” at St. Francis School here yesterday. Saito spoke on the differences between mental health and mental illness, as well as the need to support students while reducing stigma.

Juicy rebound

Cameron Gushulak looked to corral the loose puck and bury it in the back of the net in the Muskies’ semi-final showdown against the St. Joseph Panthers (Cornwall) last Thursday morning. Fort High eventually prevailed 3-2 to advance to the gold-medal game that afternoon.

OFSAA Champs

The Muskie boys’ hockey team celebrated its first gold medal at the OFSAA ‘A/AA’ championship in 15 years after beating the Silverthorn Collegiate Institute Spartans (Etobicoke) 4-2 in the final yesterday afternoon in Ottawa. The team is slated to arrive home tomorrow sometime between 5:30 and 6 p.m. at the Memorial Sports Centre.

Muskie boys win OFSAA gold

OTTAWA—The Muskies are provincial champs once again!

The boys’ hockey team captured the gold medal after doubling the Silverthorn Collegiate Institute Spartans (Etobicoke) 4-2 in the final of the OFSAA ‘A/AA’ championship in Ottawa.

“I can’t even describe what it feels like,” Muskie coach Jamie Davis grinned while his players celebrated on the ice.

Crashing the net

Sullivan Shortreed barrelled towards the net in search of a goal during the Muskie boys’ semi-final game against the St. Joseph Panthers (Cornwall) this morning at the OFSAA ‘A/AA’ championship in Ottawa. The Muskies won the game 3-2 and took on the Silverthorn Spartans (Etobicoke) for the gold medal earlier this afternoon.
