Christmas feast

Nina Barnard, 10, Linda Stewart, and Hailey Barnard, seven, sat down to enjoy a turkey feast after volunteering at the annual community Christmas dinner last Thursday afternoon at Knox United Church here.

Surprise visitor

Tiny Jackson Leininger may have greeted Santa with a big yawn but Morgan Olson definitely was more excited when jolly St. Nick stopped by their home here on Christmas Eve before making his regular rounds that night.

Wild ride

Ethan Osmar, four, went for a bumpy ride down the hill on the overpass on Sunday. District youngsters are enjoying another week of Christmas holidays before heading back to school on Monday (Jan. 5).

Winter Birds

This male cardinal was spotted among the snow-covered branches in town last week. The cardinal isn’t common to Northwestern Ontario, but recently several pairs of the species have been seen here and perhaps will be included in this year’s local Christmas Bird Count, which is set to go this Friday (Jan. 2).

Squash action

Tobby Munro put on quite the show for his rival, Steve Boileau, during the Sunset Country Squash Club’s annual Boxing Day tournament here. Ben Andrusco was crowned the champ after beating Jason Kabel in the final.

Christmas dinner

Alex Barnard, left, was all smiles as new Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP John Rafferty, right, and Matt Hickling, middle, placed turkey on her plate at the community Christmas dinner on Thursday. The volunteer trio greeted folks with cheer as they arrived at Knox United Church for the annual feast.

Release party

Local singer Wade (“Brok_Homz”) Friesen performed for friends during a release party for his second CD, “Afta Thoughts,” which was held Monday night at the Ukrainian Hall here.

Debut album

Local artist Sarah Hebert wowed a full-house at the Little Beaver Snow Park with her musical talents last night. The singer held a CD release concert for her debut album, “The Fall.”
