The 31st-annual La Place Rendez-Vous squash tournament runs today through Sunday (Jan. 5-7) at the Memorial Sports Centre. Spectators welcome.

The Borderland Snowmobile Club will hold a “poker run” from Fort Frances to Emo on Saturday, Jan. 6. Registration starts at 10 a.m. at the groomer shack off Eighth Street, with lunch to be held at the Emo Inn. The cost is $20 for the first hand and $40 for four hands, and trail permits will be available for $35.

Town council will hold its next regular meeting Monday, Jan. 8 at the Civic Centre. It will follow the committee of the whole meeting, which starts at 5:30 p.m.

The Valley Adult Learning Association will hold a course on conversational English (listening, speaking, and writing skills) for newcomers to Canada. It will run Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-noon from Jan. 9-Feb. 15 at 241 C on Second St. E. (old high school). To register, call 274-3553 or e-mail vala@jam21.net

The Muskie girls' hockey team will face the Dryden Eagles in NorWOSSA action on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 4:30 p.m. at “The Duke” (Couchiching Arena). Admission is $7 for adults, $2 for students aged 13-18, and free for those 12 and under.

A seniors' Bingo, sponsored by the Fort Frances Kiwanis Club, will be held at the Fort Frances Seniors' Centre (Sister Kennedy Centre) on Fridays from 1:30-3:30 p.m. starting Jan. 12. The cost is $2 per card, with the jackpot game being $1 per card.

A “Finding Your Way” identification kit clinic will be held Friday, Jan. 19 from 1-3 p.m. at the Fort Frances Seniors' Centre (Sister Kennedy Centre). Come learn about the risks of loved ones with dementia going missing and how to use the kit to help provide information to searchers if they do. Everyone welcome.

The 38th-annual “Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard" 5K and 10K races will be held Saturday, Jan. 20 in conjunction with "Icebox Days” festivities in International Falls. Group discounts available, with early-bird registration at www.freezeyergizzardrun.com ending Dec. 31. Other festival events include the Frostbite Falls Open, frozen turkey bowling, youth and adult smoosh races, a boot hockey tournament, chili challenge, and a winter fireworks display.
