The Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship starts today (July 19) under the big tent at the Sorting Gap Marina. Today and tomorrow's weigh-in get underway at 3:30 p.m., with the final one starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The 31st-annual “Railroad Daze” runs today through Sunday (July 19-22) in Rainy River. Check out the schedule of events on page A9 of this week's Times or go to www.railroaddaze.com

The Fort Frances Lions will hold “Bass Tournament Bingo” this evening from 6-8:30 p.m. under the big tent at the Sorting Gap Marina. The Lions also will be selling pull tabs throughout the bass tournament.

The Cajun Country Rock Band—the number one CCR/John Fogerty tribute band—will play tonight from 8:30 p.m.-1 a.m. under the tent at the Sorting Gap Marina. Admission is $10 at the door. This is a fundraiser for the Fort Frances Lions Club.

Free youth workshops, presented by Friends of the Museum and Friends of the Library and led by Lauren Hyatt, will take place on Fridays starting tomorrow (July 20) at the Rainy Lake Square. Sessions for youth ages 14-17 will take place from 9 a.m.-noon, while sessions for youth ages 10-13 will take place from 1-3 p.m. Workshops will explore culture through movement, dialogue, prose/poetry, and music. Final performance on Aug. 24. Not too late to sign up; registration forms available at the museum (274-7891).

“Fun-Tastic Inflatables” will be at the Sorting Gap Marina from noon-4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The annual “Quest for the Best” singing contest, presented by the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce, will be held Friday (July 20) under the big tent at the Sorting Gap Marina. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the first act taking the stage at 7:30. Tickets cost $15 each and are available at the Chamber office (240 First St. E.) or at the door.

The International Early Iron Car Club Show will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, July 21 at the Sorting Gap.

Spry Farm Petting Zoo will be at the Sorting Gap Marina from noon-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 21.

A steak fry by Tess' Kitchen will be at the Sorting Gap Marina starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 21. Tickets are $18 and are available at Tess' Kitchen or at the door.

Stock car racing action goes Saturday, July 21 at the Emo Speedway, with hot laps at 7 p.m. and the first race at 7:30 (weather permitting). Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for seniors/students, with those aged nine and under being free.

JUNK FM, a '80s-2000s cover band from Minneapolis, will play under the big tent at the Sorting Gap starting at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 21. Admission $10.

Community Living Fort Frances and District will hold an open-air art studio every Monday from 3-7 p.m. at various locations around town, with the next one being on July 23 at Lions Park when suncatchers will be made. All sessions are free to the public, and all ages and abilities are welcome to attend.

The Northern Echo Summer Bible Camp, open to boys and girls in Grades 2-8, will run July 22-27 at Sunny Cove. For more info, call Wanda Barker at 486-0334 or 275-6620 (cell) or Pastor Ken at 274-1873.

The Rainy River Soil & Crop Association will hold its annual crop tour on Wednesday, July 25 (meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Emo Agricultural

Research Station). Ride the bus or follow along. Free lunch so please RSVP Kim Jo Bliss at kbliss@uoguelph.ca if you plan to attend the tour.

The Emo Agricultural Research Station will host its annual open house on Wednesday, July 25 beginning at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

A Women's Fun Paint Weekend, featuring two paint classes by Jen Coats and Cherie Serrano, will be held Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29 at Timber Wolf Lodge.
