To mark Paramedic Services Week, the Rainy River Association of Professional Paramedics and Rainy River District Paramedic Services will hold free barbecues from 4-8 p.m. today (May 31) at the Emo ambulance base, as well as on Saturday, June 2 from noon-4 p.m. at the Fort Frances ambulance base. There also will be games, prizes, a bake sale, open house, and ambulance tours.

The St. Mary's Youth Group will be hosting a garage sale on Friday, June 1 from 6-8 p.m. and again on Saturday, June 2 from 8 a.m.-noon at St. Mary's church. If you wish to donate items or help set up, come by today (May 31) from 6-8 p.m.

The Northwest Training and Adjustment Board will hold is annual general meeting on Monday, June 4 at 2:30 p.m. at the Best Western Plus in Dryden. R.S.V.P. by May 22 to ntabagm18.eventbrite.ca or by calling 1-807-223-3813.

Borderland Racing Association action goes Saturday, June 2 at the Emo Speedway, with hot laps at 7 p.m. and the first heat at 7:30 (weather permitting). Admission is $12 for adults and $8 for students/seniors, with those nine and under being free.

The retired nurses dinner will be held Monday, June 4 at the Fort Frances Legion, with cocktails at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30. The District 1A Senior Games runs June 5-6 in Fort Frances. Registration has been extended until noon on Friday, June 1 for billiards, pickleball, and floor shuffleboard only. The registration fee is $35, which includes lunch both days and the banquet on Tuesday night, with forms available at the Fort Frances Senior Centre (Sister Kennedy Centre).

The Rainy River District Women's Shelter of Hope will hold its annual general meeting on Wednesday, June 6 at 6 p.m. at La Place Rendez-Vous. Any interested parties may attend.

The provincial election is being held Thursday, June 7, with polls open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. (CDT). Be sure to vote!

The United Native Friendship Centre will hold its annual general meeting on Thursday, June 7 at 5 p.m. upstairs at the Royal Canadian Legion. Dinner and refreshments will be provided.

Community Living Fort Frances and District will hold its annual general business meeting on Wednesday, June 13 at 6 p.m. at its office at 525 Mowat Ave. For more info, contact Wendy at 274-5556 ext. 210.

Firefly will hold its annual general meeting on Friday, June 15 at 5 p.m. in Room L08 located at 820 Lakeview Dr. in Kenora. Everyone is welcome to attend.

The annual “Walk for Alzheimer's”—featuring 1K and 2K routes—will be held Saturday, June 16 starting at the Sorting Gap Marina. Registration begins at 10 a.m., with a welcome and warm-up to follow at 11 a.m. A free barbecued lunch will be held afterwards. The Rainy River Future Development Corp. will hold its annual general meeting on Tuesday, June 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Emo Legion (123 Jessie St.)

“Relay for Life" will be held Saturday, June 23 from 4-10:30 p.m. at the new Rainy Lake Square in downtown Fort Frances. Teams are urged to sing up today by contacting organizer Monica Sus at 274-7043 or by dropping by the "Welcome Home” Fort Frances Family Centre (272 Scott St.) on Monday to Friday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Tea and scones are back every “Market Thursday” from June 28-Aug. 30. Come to the Fort Frances Museum from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. (back elevator entrance will be open), with admission being $5.
