The Community Income Tax Program at the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau (old CN station) has concluded. Those who have not picked up their tax records can do so there Mondays and Wednesdays from 1-4 p.m. Records will be held until today (June 30), after which they will be destroyed for privacy reasons. This includes records of past years, as well.

A pancake breakfast will be held Saturday, July 1 from 7-9:30 a.m. upstairs at the Legion. Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for kids five and under. Everyone is welcome!

The annual Canada Day parade will be held Saturday, July 1 starting at 11 a.m. at the Sorting Gap Marina (parade lineup starts at 10 a.m.) The parade will move along Front Street to Armit Avenue, head north to Church Street, and then turn west before ending at the Legion.

The Fort Frances launch of “Stories Best Left Untold,” a political memoir by former resident Gord Mackintosh, will be held Monday, July 3 at 6:30 p.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library. Signed copies will be available for $30 each.

“Science En Route: Build It Up!” is slated for Friday, July 7 from 1-4 p.m. at the Fort Frances Public Library. Kids can learn about ancient architecture, natural structures, and the science behind building through activities and stations. This free event is sponsored by Saulteaux Consulting.

“Fore! The Memories”—a charity golf tournament hosted by the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts—will be held Friday, July 7 at Kitchen Creek. Tee-off is at 1 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m. The entry fee is $100/golfer, which includes golf fees and cart, dinner, and a $40 tax receipt. The Fort Frances Lakers' annual golf tournament is set for Saturday, July 8 starting at 10 a.m. at Kitchen Creek. The first 40 teams accepted (must have a combined handicap of 40, with only one being under seven), with the entry fee being $400/team. There also will be draw prizes and other contests. A brainstorming session to explore holding a “Pride” celebration in the Fort/Falls area in 2018 will be held Wednesday, July 12 at 7 p.m. at Knox United Church. Those interested can contact the organizing committee with questions/suggestions via e-mail at borderlandpride@gmail.com

The “Canadian Coasters" coast-to-coast 50th anniversary tour will be stopping in Fort Frances on July 19-21, with the "Scott Street Show & Shine” slated for July 19 and then a car show on July 20 at the Sorting Gap Marina. Meanwhile, the local International Early Iron Car Club will present a '50s dance (featuring The Sensational Hot Rods) on Thursday, July 20 under the big tent at the Sorting Gap Marina. Tickets for that cost $10 each, which are available at Carl's Eatery, From the Grind Up, Fine Line Art Gallery, and Flint House in Fort Frances, Norlund Oil in Emo, or from club members.

The “Lions Legacy" golf tournament, featuring a four-person, best-ball format, will be held Saturday, July 29 starting at 9 a.m. at Kitchen Creek. There's a chance to win a car with a hole-in-one, as well as putting, driving, and other fun contests. The entry fee is $100/person or $400/team, which includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, and supper. All proceeds to go to district charities like KidSport, Special Olympics, the "Community Chest,” and the Emo and District Medical Fund. The 15th-annual “Ride for Memories,” presented by the local Alzheimer Society, will be held Saturday, Aug. 19, with start locations in Fort Frances, Kenora, and Dryden. A steak dinner will follow at 7 p.m. at the Legion in Dryden. The early-bird registration is $20, with the price being $25 after July 27 (dinner ticket included).
