The Muskies will host the Kenora Broncos in WHSFL action today (Sept. 15) at 3 p.m. at Muskie Field. Spectators welcome.

The Fort Frances Lakers will host the English River Miners in pre-season action today (Sept. 15) at 7:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena. Admission is $12. Season passes also will be sold from 5-7:15 p.m.

The annual Municipal Hazardous and Special Waste Day will be held Saturday, Sept. 16 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Public Works yard (900 Wright Ave.) If you have any questions, visit

Fall workshops at the Fort Frances Museum—for ages 12 and up—will be held Saturdays from 1-4 p.m. (unless otherwise indicated). The first class will be felting, with instructor J. Nelson, on Sept. 16 and 23. The cost is $16, with a maximum class size of 13. Questions? Call Sherri at 274-7891.

A “lunch and learn” to meet new Rainy River Community College provost Dr. Rosanne Kelly, hosted by the International Falls Chamber of Commerce, will be held Tuesday, Sept. 19 at noon at Lenards (AmericInn). The Fort Frances Vipers volleyball developmental league will hold registration Wednesday, Sept. 20 from 6-8 p.m. in the Fort High atrium. The cost is $80 (includes T-shirt), with the eight-week program starting the week of Oct. 2. Muskie football players will be going door-to-door on Sept. 20-21 to sell discount cards at a cost of $20 each. Cards also available at McTaggarts.

The Rainy Lake 150 concert series, being held at the Rainy Lake Square and sponsored by Tbaytel and “Ontario 150,” will feature Northern Artists Night (Sept. 21) and the Daylin James Elvis Show (Sept. 28). All concerts start at 6 p.m., with admission being free.

The Royal Canadian Legion Br. #29 will hold its next general meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. (not Saturday, Sept. 16 as was printed in the recent newsletter).

“Pasta Palooza," a pasta cook-off being hosted by the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce instead of the annual "Great Canadian Chili Cook-off,” is set for Wednesday, Sept. 27 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. upstairs at the Memorial Sports Centre.

The Legion Ladies' Auxiliary will hold its next monthly supper—featuring pork cutlets—on Friday, Sept. 29 at 5:30 p.m. upstairs at the Legion (doors open at 4:30). Admission is $15/person, with take-outs available by calling 274-3772. A 50/50 draw also will be held.

The grand opening of the Rainy Lake Square is set for Thursday, Oct. 5, with events getting underway in early afternoon. Pop Vegas then will perform a free concert starting at 6 p.m.

The La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary will hold a fall tea on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 2-4 p.m. at the New Beginnings Fellowship Church. There also will be a bake table, cookie walk, “Lucky Dozen” draw, raffles, and a door prize. Admission is $5.

Tickets now are available for the Riverside Foundation for Health Care's fall gala, entitled “Making Magic for District Health Care," which will take place Saturday, Oct. 14 at La Place Rendez-Vous. “Hockey Legends All-Stars” will be in Fort Frances for an exhibition game on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.
