Millionth dot-ca domain name hit

OTTAWA—The Internet has reached a milestone in Canada with the one millionth dot-ca (.ca) domain name.
The Canadian Internet Registration Authority said a Calgary lawyer registered the one-millionth dot-ca name for a website to promote his private law practice.

Brent Krause—new owner of krauslaw.ca—has practised intellectual property law for more than 10 years and says he’s registered several dot-ca sites.
The authority said Canada’s one of the world’s most wired countries, and growing, and it calls the dot-ca milestone evidence of Canada’s “strong Internet presence and the popularity of Canadian websites.”
The first dot-ca domain name—upei.ca—was registered by the University of Prince Edward Island in 1988 and the designation has been growing at more than 20 percent annually.
