Muskie duo off to all-Ontarios


Tim Desjardins and Jamie Jensen now have their sights set on winning all-Ontario gold.
The Muskie senior boys’ doubles team advanced to OFSAA, being held May 1-3 in Niagara Falls/St. Catharines, after finishing in second place with a 3-1 record at the NWOSSAA showdown last Wednesday in Wawa.

The duo opened action with a 21-13/21-14 victory over Keough/Heath of Manitouwadge.
After losing 21-16/21-17 to O’Connor/Campbell, also of Manitouwadge, the Muskie pair bounced back with victories over MacQuarrie/Desaulniers of Atikokan (21-12/21-18) and Cameron/Migliazza of St. Ignatius (21-9/21-9).
Meanwhile, four Muskie junior entries all turned in third-place showings at in their respective divisions at NWOSSAA in Wawa.
Rory Bagacki, competing in the junior boys’ singles event, split his first two matches, defeating Tremblay (Trillium) by scores of 23-21 and 21-17 before falling 21-13/21-18 to Milks (Manitouwadge).
He then lost to Anderson (St. Ignatius) in three sets (17-21-, 21-16, and 17-21) before sweeping Smith (Atikokan) by scores of 21-8 and 21-16 to nail down third place.
In junior girls’ singles action, Chelsea Carlson romped over Pelletier (Hammarskjold) 21-6/21-7 before losing a three-set heart-breaker to Gionet (Lake Superior) by scores of 21-11, 17-21, and 22-24.
She bounced back with a 21-17/21-16 sweep over Amos (Michipicoten) but had to settle for third after losing 21-19 and 21-14 to Graboski (Dryden).
Finally, in girls’ doubles action, Muskies Jillian Berry and Hannah Taylor opened play with a 21-8/21-10 victory over Melnick/Gilbert (St. Patrick’s) but then fell 21-16/21-17 to Weilgosh/Piche (Manitouwadge).
They needed three sets to get past Boyd-Perry/Twance (Marathon) by scores of 21-14, 19-21, and 21-12 before wrapping up on a losing note with a narrow 22-24, 21-19, and 21-18 defeat at the hands of Felsky/Skillen (Dryden).
