Basaraba, Cain drafted by OHL

On Saturday, Joe Basaraba and Mitch Cain both were given news that they had been selected in the annual OHL draft.
Basaraba, who played for the Muskies last season, went in the second round (22nd out of 301 players drafted) to the Erie Otters while Cain, a member of the Fort Frances Jr. Sabres, was selected in the 10th round (183rd overall) to the Windsor Spitfires.

Basaraba is the son of Al and Laurel while Cain’s parents are Ed and Lori.
Meanwhile, four other hockey players from Northwestern Ontario also were drafted Saturday.
Marshall and Mitchell Fox of the Thunder Bay Kings, along with teammate Cody Fraser, were drafted by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, the Spitfires, and Sudbury Wolves, respectively.
And Carson Dubchak, of the Kenora ‘AAA’ Midget Stars, was picked up by the Greyhounds.
Last year, Luke Judson of Emo was drafted by the Belleville Bulls, Jordan Davis of Devlin to the Owen Sound Attack, and Pat Bobczynski to the Guelph Storm.
Over the last three years, quite a few hockey players from the Fort Frances area have been drafted by the OHL.
Considering the majority of the population is in southern Ontario, the area should be proud of the recognition in athletic excellence it has received.
