Wal-Mart tops $15,000

More than $15,179 was raised in 2007 by the Fort Frances Wal-Mart’s in-store fundraising and sponsored activities for local community groups and a range of national charities.
The local charities that received much-needed financial support from the store were selected by Wal-Mart associates.

The 2007 fundraising activities included raising $1,149 for Fort Frances High School, $1,650 for local associates in need, and $4,682 for George Jeffrey Children’s Foundations.
“It is wonderful to see the level of support that customers and associates in our community give to each other,” said store manager Darryl Skinner.
“These groups provide such a great service to our community that Fort Frances Wal-Mart is delighted that we can contribute by providing a venue for fundraising,” he added.
Many local youth, sport, and community groups also used Fort Frances Wal-Mart to meet their fundraising goals.
In addition to local charities, Wal-Mart Canada also supported the Children’s Miracle Network, Canadian Red Cross, and Breakfast Clubs of Canada through national campaigns in 2007.
“The support we received in 2007 from the local community for our national fundraising campaigns was overwhelming,” Skinner said.
“Without a doubt, 2007 was one of our best years yet and we look forward to supporting more groups and raising more money in 2008,” he enthused.
Fort Frances Wal-Mart raised $2,071 for the Children’s Miracle Network, $1,234 for the Canadian Red Cross, and $2,712 for the Breakfast Clubs of Canada.
Every week in Canada, Wal-Mart stores raise and contribute more than $365,000 to Canadian charities.
Last year alone, the company raised and donated more than $19 million to charities across the country.
