Awards ceremony held at college

A ceremony was held at Confederation College here last Tuesday (March 18) to celebrate student achievement.
The first portion of the ceremony involved the presentation of certificates to the graduates of the Women in Skilled Trades/Multi-Skilling Program, which offered participants the academic requirements and the opportunity to explore a range of skilled trades.

The 14-week trades readiness portion of the program provided academic skills in mathematics, communications, computers, employability skills, and trades preparation, including a number of certificates (WHMIS, Rigging & Hoisting, First Aid and CPR, etc.)
The Level 1 trades training was the next portion of the program, which gave students a hands-on experience through this project-based approach in trade clusters.
These included automotive service technician, carpentry, electrician, heavy duty equipment mechanic, industrial mechanical millwright, and welder.
An eight-week placement followed at local organizations.
Della McQuaker and Kristy Brenna were the successful candidates of this program.
The second portion of the ceremony was to present students with scholarships, awards, and bursaries.
