‘Walleyedol’ contest set to go May 30

With the Emo Walleye Classic less than a month away, everything is set to go for the fishing tournament’s fourth-annual “Walleyedol” singing competition.
This year’s contest will take place only on Friday, May 30, which is a slight change from previous years.
In the past, the contest has stretched over two nights, with the second night being the final for the top competitors.
In other years, this has meant some singers were unwilling or unable to attend for both evenings. By switching to the one night, organizers are hoping more people will register for “Walleyedol.”
This year’s first-place winner will receive $400, with $200 going to the second-place finisher and $100 to the third-place contestant.
There also will be a “crowd favourite” chosen by the audience. Each member of the audience will be allowed to purchase one ballot in order to vote for their favourite singer of the evening.
The “favourite” will receive a prize of $100.
Organizer Laurel Mose is hoping to have a good number of responses to this year’s competition.
“I’ve already got two people registered and we only put out the forms a few days ago,” she noted. “It would be great to see a large group competing in this year’s ‘Walleyedol.’”
Singing competitions like “Walleyedol” give local talent a chance to sing in public, develop their talent, and challenge themselves to do their best in a competitive atmosphere.
In the past few years, the local talent has been quite impressive and competition for the top prize has been intense, but that shouldn’t stop people who enjoy singing from competing this time around.
As the saying goes, you can’t win if you don’t have a ticket. When it comes to singing competitions, you’ll never know if you could have won if you don’t give it a try.
So if you enjoy singing, entertaining people, and are up for a challenge, then sign up for this year’s “Walleyedol.”
Registration forms may be obtained at the Village Variety on Highway 11/71 in Emo.
The Emo “Walleyedol” singing competition is open to anyone 16 years old and up who lives in the Borderland area. The entry fee is $20.
Registration forms must be turned in at the Village Variety by May 20.
A limited number of registrants will be accepted, so if you are interested in singing, pick up your registration form as soon as possible.
